INFOGRAPHIC POSTER

━━━━━
THE BRIEF
Design an infographics poster that presents the story, experiences, achievement or any interesting facts about an invention of society. It should be clear, informative and very entertaining. Use illustration, with typography, to create the narrative. It should reflect the use of at least two infographics frameworks - Spatial, Chronological, or Quantitative display.

AN INFOGRAPHIC ABOUT HOKKIEN MEE: GET HOOKED ON HOOKIEN MEE!
━━━━━
COPYWRITING: THE TITLE
“Get Hooked on Hookien Mee” is a play-on-words with the word “hook”. The explicit meaning behind the title is to relay to people to be interested in the dish. An intention behind this title choice is the fact that the wordplay would be a rather memorable name for my infographic and would enhance it by giving off a humorous mood. By uniting the 2 “O”s in “Hookien”, it symbolises how Hokkien mee is a dish that unites people. Overall, the choice of the word “hook” is to essentially emphasise on connection, which is a prevalent theme in the infographic.

CONCEPT: CONNECTION
The theme of connection is further reinforced by the strand of noodle that connects the start of the noodle ladder on the wok’s lid to the woK and out from it. The way it travels around the infographic to different points of information creates a frame for the infographic, which directs viewers information in a smooth down-to-up way.

COLOURS: RED, YELLOW
This shade of red is chosen for the background to help make the dominant element (the wok) stand out strongly while enhancing the warm-toned colour scheme of the overall infographic. On the other hand, the implicit meaning behind red is the fact that Hokkien Mee originated from the Chinese heritage, which associates to China and Singapore, in which both country flags are red. With that, I wanted to emphasise on the commotion between these 2 countries by incorporating a red background. Yellow is used for “Hookien Mee” and headers to make them stand out against the background.

DESIGN: THE ROOSTER WOK
The iconic rooster plateware design is incorporated to reinforce the Singaporean-ness of Hokkien Mee, considering how this rooster design is very common amongst Singaporeans. My purpose of including this iconic design is to emphasise on our local essence by tapping onto the familiarity incurred in people behind this rooster design- I want my viewers to be able to resonate with my infographic through the sense of reminiscence via the design. Adding on to the fact that rooster plateware is a common item found across homes in Singapore, I included the rooster design to emphasise on a homely feel behind Hokkien Mee- I want to portray it as a dish that everyone across all families will love and be connected together through it.
